The Aaranya Kaandam team – including its producer S.P. Charan and lead actors Jackie Shroff, Sampath, Ravi Krishna and Yasmin – met with the press on January 19th to talk about their film.
Speaking at the occasion, Jackie Shroff thanked S.P. Charan for providing him a chance to act in his film. The entire hall reverberated with the tall and handsome actor’s baritone as he spoke. Expressing his high regards for Tamil film industry, he said he is very proud to become a member of Kollywood, a wonderful film industry which gave legendary artists A.R. Rahman, Ilayaraja and Rajinikanth to the nation. Also, Jackie Shroff added that S.P. Balasubramaniam has sung quite a lot of songs for him and it gives him immense pleasure to act in his son’s film.
When questioned about why he did not act in Tamil films so far, the actor replied matter-of-factly that no one invited him. The actor also explained that though he had not acted in a Tamil film so far, he had visited Chennai several times in the last 25 years whenever a Bollywood film shoot was held here. Thus he knew the Tamil film industry very well. About his role in the film, the actor said that he plays a don in Aaranya Kaandam. Speaking about his experience of acting in a Tamil film, he said he feels great about being a part of a Tamil film at last and has no difficulty in getting the dialogues and matching expressions correctly, as he is able grasp the idea when the director explains the shot to him.

Suriya will act in Adhavan to be directed by K.S. Ravikumar and produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin. It also has been confirmed that Nayantara will be the heroine. Suriya is currently acting in Ayan and K.S. Ravikumar has almost finished his work in Jaggubhai, starring Sarathkumar and Shriya.
Film analysts view this as a very important phase in the careers of Suriya and Nayantara. With Vaaranam Aayiram’s success, Suriya has established himself as one of the best method actors of Kollywood. Soon, he will play a superhero in UTV Productions' Mugamoodi, which will be directed by Mysskin. This is perhaps Kollywood’s first super hero film and people are quite excited about it. Nayantara (Malayalam: നയന് à´¤ാà´°, Tamil: நயன்தாà®°ா) (born Diana Mariam Kurien on November 18, 1984), Malayalee-born Indian actress, who has acted in many Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu movies. After several commercial successes such as Chandramukhi, Ghajini, Billa and Yaaradi Nee Mohini, Nayantara has established herself as one of the most promising, sought-after actresses of South India.
Early life
She did her schooling at various parts of India (Kerala and Tamil Nadu), as her father was an Air Force Official. She joined Balikamadom High School, Thiruvalla for +2, then joined Marthoma college in Thiruvalla for her Bachelor's degree (English Literature). Nayantara was born into a Orthodox Syrian Christian family, in Tiruvalla, Pathanamthitta District, Kerala.
Career
Nayan Tara who was Diana Mariyam Kurien then was chosen 1st runner up in Best model Kerala 2003 which was conducted by Thrissur Advertising Club. This gave her a few opportunities in modelling for adverisements. While at college, she was spotted by director Satyan Anthikkad and cast opposite Jayaram in Mansinakkare. Afterwards, she co-starred alongside Mohanlal in Naatturajaavu and in Fazil's Vismayathumbathu. She was also cast with Mammootty in Thaskaraveeran (Dubbed into Tamil as Yuvaraj) and Raapakal.
She has also starred in several Tamil and Telugu movies. She was cast opposite Sarath Kumar in Ayya and with Rajnikanth in Chandramukhi. Her later films are Vallavan (Tamil) and Yogi (Telugu) flopped except for her Tamil film Ghajini. She regained her throne in Kollywood through the famous bikini shots in Billa in 2007. Her next movie Yaaradi Nee Mohini was a stupendous success. Nayantara's Tamil career followed with leading roles in films with Rajnikanth in Kuselan, Ajith Kumar in Aegan, Joseph Vijay in Villu and Vishal in Sathyam. She was paid Rs. 1Crore for Sathyam, Kuselan and Aegan becoming one of the highest paid actresses in South India.
Philanthropy
Nayantara has contributed to several causes. While working with Rajini, who is known for giving away gifts such as chains to people on the sets to celebrate a movie's success or to reward his coworkers, she became intrigued by his kind gestures. Inspired by this, she also started to reward her co-workers in her other movies by giving away gifts such as cars and bicycles. During shoots Nayan always stays at the floor, unlike other stars.

Priyadharshan Film to be screened in Psiff
Kanchivaram in annual Palm Springs International Film Festival
One of the most successful commercial filmmaker in India, Priyadarshan's critically acclaimed off-beat Tamil film Kanchivaram (also referred to as Kanchipuram) will be screened at the 20th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival, 2009 (PSIFF) to be held in California from January 6 to 19, 2009. Kanchivaram was recently premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and International Film Festival of India 2008 (IFFI) in Goa.
Priyadarshan will deliver a short speech about his film during the festival, which is considered to be the most glamorous and prestigious event in the world. PSIFF, founded in 1990, will screen 210 films from 73 countries.
Talking about his forthcoming Hindi film Billoo Barber produced by Shahrukh Khan and Gauri Khan, Priyadarshan said that the film will be released on February 13. Billoo Barber is a remake of renowned Malayalam filmmaker Sreenivasan’s Katha Parayumbol (2007) which was recently remade as Kuselan by P. Vasu in Tamil.
“Unlike Rajinikanth starrer Kuselan, Billoo Barber will be closer to the original version which had a lot more human sentiments and in which the focus was on the life and times of the barber's character. SRK is just the icing on the cake and I’m sure it will work,” a newspaper quoted him as saying.
Apart from Billoo Barber, Priyadarshan is currently working on three Hindi films: Bhum Bhum Bhole, De Dhana Dhan and Malamaal Weekly-2 which are expected in April, October and December respectively. Priyadarshan is also planning to direct a Malayalam film this year with scripting by M.T. Vasudevan Nair, one of the biggest literary giants in Kerala. This film will feature his favourite actor Mohanlal in the lead. Other details of the film are yet to be finalized.

Upcoming hero Nakul (of Kadhal Vizhunden fame) and heroine Poorna (Muniyandi Moondram Vilangiyal fame) are pairing up in Kandha Kottai, a love story which will be directed by Shakthi, who assisted Radha Mohan in Kanda Naal Mudhal.
Though Boys was Nakul’s first film, the young man has been in great demand ever since Kadhalil Vizhunden happened – every director or producer wants to make a film with him. At present, he is working in Masilamani opposite Sunaina, who was also his heroine in Kadhalil Vizhunden.
Recently, both these actors participated in the photoshoot of Kandha Kottai and their sizzling onscreen chemistry was a pleasant surprise to all. Insiders say that they make a great onscreen pair and that their onscreen chemistry will prove to be the film’s main USP.

This is Sasi's fourth film after Sollamale, Roja Kootam and Dishyum and his first film set in a village. The story is based on a short story 'Veyilodu Poi' by Tamilselvan.
This simple chronicle of love will now be awarded the Best Film award by Makkal TV in a grand ceremony on Bhogi Day, January 12th, on the premises of Chettinad Vidyashram School, Raja Annamalaipuram. The awards have been conceptualized with the aim of encouraging Tamil culture and trends that are fast disappearing due to a lack of recognition from the public. Makkal TV has announced these awards to winners in 32 categories such as Best Daily, Best Writer, Best Citizen, Best Drama, Best Short Film, Best Sportsperson, etc.
Dr. Anbumani Ramdass, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, will be presenting the awards. Since the organizers wanted to retain the suspense and thrill of ceremony, they chose not to reveal the names of all the winners. But an exception was made for the Best Film awardee and it was announced that Poo will receive the Best Film award for its realistic portrayal of rural life in the interior of Tamil Nadu.
